AMOROSO² — Autonomous Campus Robot Navigation
Robotics research project using ROS and Python to enable autonomous navigation for service robots on campus.
Context
Applied research project at PXL Smart ICT investigating how autonomous robot dogs can guide visitors and students through campus buildings at Corda Campus in Hasselt.
Goal
Develop and evaluate navigation and spatial awareness capabilities for autonomous service robots operating in real indoor campus environments.
My Contribution
I contributed to the research as both an intern (Feb–Jun 2023) and a contracted researcher (Aug–Nov 2023), working on robot navigation, sensor integration, and spatial mapping pipelines.
Technical Learning
I gained hands-on experience with ROS, sensor fusion, and real-world robot deployment in unstructured environments, and sharpened my Python scripting for data processing pipelines.
Soft Skills
I learned to work in an applied research setting with iterative experimentation cycles and cross-functional collaboration with academic supervisors.
